What is the Grafton Community Scholarship Group?
The Grafton Community Scholarship Fund has been around for over 30 years. The group raises money to help fund scholarships to assist Grafton High School Graduates further their educational goals. The student can use the scholarships at any post-secondary accredited institution within one year of graduation.
Where does the money raised go?
The money raised goes directly back to the graduates for continuing their education. Each graduation year raises money for their class, and then must meet scholarship criteria in order to be awarded the scholarships. There is a general fund, which all students can qualify for, and there are “Named” scholarships. For the Named scholarships, students must meet certain criteria to qualify - either studying a specific field of interest or maintaining an interest throughout their high school career.
How much has been distributed to GHS Grads?
The GHS class of 2024 was awarded $40,500. We distributed 19 Named scholarships, along with 34 GSG scholarships. Since starting in 1991, GSG has awarded 1,125 scholarships totalling over $684,000!
How does the group raise money?
Our main fundraising events or items are Nite Golf, Grad Grams, Yard Signs and Grafton Gives.
Nite Golf takes place in early fall at Edgewater Golf course. Tickets sold include golf, appetizers, drinks and a few other golf-related items. Sign up is available over summer.
Grad Grams are postcard-type items that can be decorated or a note added for this year’s graduating seniors. All cards are then bound together and given to the students at graduation. Sales start in early December and run until the week before graduation. Grams are available at all 4 district schools and Ace Hardware in Grafton.
Yard Signs are typically available in early spring. Graduate signs for both JLMS and GHS.
Grafton Gives is the door-to-door giving event all high school students have a chance to be a part of, in Spring. Money donated goes towards the student’s graduation year, with a portion going towards the current graduates as well.
How can I help?
We are looking to add more general members to our group, as well as those that have a specific interest in Marketing/Communications, Website Design and Fundraising. Our meetings are open to the public and take place at 6:30pm in the GHS Cafeteria on the last Monday of the month.
