Elementary & Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Funds
On February 3 a new plan to allocate ESSER III funding was agreed to by DPI and the Joint Finance Committee that resulted in a $1.6 million allocation of ESSER III funds for the Grafton School District. These funds are intended to help sustain the safe operation of schools and address the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on students and staff. Allowable expenses include, but are not limited to, the following program types identified by the Wisconsin State DPI:
- Preparedness and Response to COVID-19
- Addressing Long-term School Closure
- Outreach & Service Delivery to Special Populations
- Addressing Afterschool and Summer Learning
- Mental Health Services and Supports
- Continued Staff Employment
Earlier this year the District surveyed stakeholders to share information about these one-time funds, identify the needs of local students and families, and gather input to understand the needs of students and their families. The top priorities identified by survey respondents were mental health services and social emotional learning, staffing continuity, and instructional support. Based on this feedback, administration developed the ESSER III Budget Plan to allocate the funds accordingly. The Board of Education approved the plan on February 21, 2022.
