The Need

The average age of school buildings in the Grafton School District is 51 years. As you review these photos, please be reminded that buildings age and deteriorate. Additionally, in recent years the district has had to contend with extremely tight budgets caused by revenue controls and state budget conditions, and therefore has deferred necessary maintenance and repairs. The April 5 Investing in Our Children and Community referendum, if successful, will update all infrastructure needs which includes plumbing, electric, roofs, HVAC, flooring, parking lots, etc.

As shown in the video below, improper and inadequate drainage at Grafton Elementary School results in water infiltration back into the basement of the building.  The cumulative effect of the water infiltration causes building deterioration.

The Solution

In March 2014, the school district began a six step facilities study process that could lead to a referendum. The Citizens Facilities Committee comprised of parents, staff, and community members was organized in April 2015 to examine the best course of action. The committee recommended a comprehensive plan for remodeling, school additions, and new construction  that would address the needs in all five district buildings.
