Congratulations to the Girls Soccer Team for advancing to the WIAA State Semi-Finals with a 3-0 victory over Neenah Thursday night.

The Hawks return to action at 8 PM Friday vs. Madison West.  The game is played on the Time Warner Cable Field at Uihlein Soccer Park.  Tickets are $7.

The GHS Girls Soccer team defeated Cedarburg 5-2 on Saturday evening and have qualified for the WIAA Division 1 State Tournament.
The Girls will take on Neenah, in Thursday's Quarterfinal Matchup, at 7pm at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee.
This is the 5th consecutive year the girls have made it to the State Tournament!


Congratulations to the GHS Boys Track & Field team, as they capped off a very successful season with a 5th place overall finish (out of 63 schools that qualified athletes for the Division 1 state meet) at this past weekend's WIAA State Divsion 1 Track & Field Meet....
*Jason Zahn won the State Championship in the Discus (and was 2nd in the Shot Put)
*The 4 x 400 Relay team (Marcus Hill, Kevin Wegner, Patrick Tobianski, Erick Huertas) finished 3rd
*Zack DeBuhr finished 6th in the 200 meter dash
Also.. the GHS Girls Track & Field team, completed their most successful season in years at State.  During the course of this season the Girls were:

The annual Ecology Runner Kids JFK Elementary School Earth Walk effort was a huge success. Some 250 students and teachers cruised the streets cleaning each and every piece of litter in their path. 

Afterwards, five 32-gallon Rubbermaids were filled to the brim. That, on top of our 15-gallon bucket discovery. Well done, JFK!

This week five Grafton High School students were selected as some of the most talented photographers in the country by the Photographic Society of America. Grafton also had the HUGE privilege of having more photos accepted than any other school in the nation!

Christine O'Neil was elected to Central Region Vice President for DECA at the National Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah yesterday, 5/1/12.

On Friday 4/27/12, Grafton High School Art Department took the first ever GHS Art Team to the State-wide Visioneer Design Challenge at UWM.  Our 8 students competed in Graphic Design, Digital Photography, Game Design, Fashion Design and Web design.  
For the long challenges, taking home a first place in Graphic Design: Alison Galarza and Morgan Conley.  First places in Digital Photography come home with Kelly Cassel and Mariah Fox.  Fashion Design first place goes to Caroline Holzer, and in Game Design, first place goes to Noah Rotter.  Naomi Shelvikplaced second for her long challenge in digital photos and Shelby Lange took home a third place in the tough competition of Web design.  
For short challenges, (these are given to the competitors at the challenge for development the second part of the day), Alison Galarza and Morgan Conleyswept first in Graphic Design,  Kelly CasselMariah Fox and Naomi Shelvik in Digital Photos, Noah Rotter in Game Design and Caroline Holzer in Fashion Design.

Last week the 6th grade students at JLMS took part in Weather Day at Miller Park.  As part of this day the TMJ Storm team recognize students as Future Forecasters based on essays written by their teachers that demonstrate their excitement in learning science.  This year from the 11,000 kids in attendanceAlex Pavelic was picked as one of the 2 future forecasters this year.  It was a very exciting time for his classmates, his family and especially himself.


Congratulations to the GHS Girls Track Team, as they won the North Shore Conference Indoor Track & Field Meet, held at Cedarburg High School last night. 
The girls had a score of 100 points (Germantown was 2nd with 80 points).
This was the first GHS Track/Field Conference Championship since they won the NSC Outdoor meet in 1987.

Grafton High School Art Department is pleased to announce exceptional recognition for art students in two separate art shows.  
Last Friday, March 30, Six GHS art students were acknowledged in Madison for their pieces being shown at our Capitol.  Rebecca Blau, Danielle Jerjevic, D. Foster, Natalie Crandall, Josh Weissinger and Samantha Reitter made outstanding showing.  Natalie Crandall received the Sax Arts Award, and Josh Weissinger received a W.T. Grant Award, which means his piece will be shown at venues throughout the State, as well as the 2012 Wisconsin State Fair.

The Grafton High School Art Department is pleased to announce that senior,Rebecca Blau, has earned national recognition in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2012, presented by the Alliance for Young Artist and Writers!  Rebecca has been identified by a panel of professional artists and writers as one of the most talented young artists in the nation.  This year, 200,000 works of art and writing were submitted, while only the top 1,500 have been recognized at the national level. Rebecca, along with her teacher, Ms. Gorra-Patek, has been invited to attend the ceremony at the World-famous Carnegie Hall in June, as well as, participate in a number of showcase events at the New School of Design at Parsons in New York City.  Rebecca’s art work will also be shipped to New York to be shown along with the pieces of a select group of the top young artists. Grafton High School can be proud to have Rebecca represent our school at this year’s National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.  

John Long 7th Grade Boys A Basketball Team Undefeated
The John Long Middle School seventh-grade A boys basketball team finished its season with an undefeated record of 15-0; the first boys A basketball team in school history to complete a season undefeated!  The team outscored its opponents by an average score of 46-16.  The team included coach Lindsey Schreurs, Tanner Autey, Jake Bennett, Jack Birch, Billy Buschman, Logan Hilgart, Carson Klaus, Matt Orlowski, Jake Pedersen, Justin Peters, Matt Silasiri, Ryan Stachurski and Jacob Wilkin.  Great Job boys!

National Junior Honor Society - John Long Middle School
John Long Middle School is proud to announce the newest members of its chapter of the National Junior Honor Society!  The following students, by decision of the NJHS Faculty Council, have been selected as members of JLMS NJHS.  All have demonstrated scholarship (cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher) and evidence of community service, as well as other qualities including character, citizenship, and leadership and/or leadership potential.  In addition to these characteristics, all students participated in numerous school and/or community activities.  Please congratulate them on their achievement and encourage their development as student leaders and role models in our learning community.

The official induction ceremony will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at 6:00 p.m., in the large gym at John Long Middle School.  All are invited to attend this celebration of our outstanding students.

Over the past year, the JLMS chapter of NJHS raised over $1500 for the American Red Cross to help out tsunami and tornado victims, made cards for nursing home residents, and collected food and winter apparel for Family Sharing.  Students are currently in the process of raising money to donate to Hallmark's "Storybooks for Soldiers" and planning both a stuffed animal toy drive and a school-wide door-decorating contest in honor of Memorial Day.

GHS Boys Swimming & Diving team 
Congratulations to Coach Mark Minz and the GHS Boys Swimming & Diving team, who finished 9th at the WIAA Division 2 State Meet, on Friday in Madison!
Al Nennig is the State Champion in the 50 Freestyle, and was 2nd in the 100 Breaststroke.
The 200 Freestyle Relay team of Kieran Paddock, Ben Gosselin, Brad Kempka and Al Nennig finished in 3rd place, and those 4 also finished 8th in the 400 Freestyle Relay (both school records)
Divers Zach Greenwood and Killian Mielotz finished 6th and 16th place respectively.
Brad Kempka finished 11th in the 100 Freestyle.

JLMS Technology Education News
This quarter's structural forces static test produced two new records and five exemplary designs!
Nate O'Neal and Bob Burger set a new holding record with 29 textbooks on their 5oz. straw and pin structure!!! (each book weighs between 4lbs. 7oz. and 4lbs. 10oz. - so their 5oz. structure held approximately 2001oz. - 400.2 times its own mass! WOW!)
Tigran Ovsepyan and Jared Deck set the record for the lightest tower ever to hold the four textbooks with a slender structure weighing barely 1oz.!

MSO Young Artist Competition
Katherine Seybold, Junior at GHS placed as one of the 6 finalists in the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra's Young Artist Competition on Saturday, 1/28/12. She earned the honor of sitting first chair at the Milwaukee Symphony's March 2nd concert alongside the symphony members. 

GHS Dance Team Advances to State

GHS's Competition Cheer Team took 1st in the small varsity division at the Milwaukee Bucks 27th Annual Cheer Coompetition held on Jan.15 at Wisconsin Lutheran College.  The team includes Abbee Daehnert, Lauren Brunnquell, Rachel Weidner, Mykayla Silva, Tori Alexander, Darian Howard, Emilee Daehnert, Breanna Vey, Clairissa Alexander, Annlya Knauer, Jaqueline Luy, Carly Wisth and Kayla Armstrong.  The team coaches are Cari Grabow and Beth Anderson.  Way to go girls!

Red Ribbon Campaign Winners
The first and second place 2012 Red Ribbon Campaign theme winners are Erika Stielow and Kaitlyn Senczyszyn respectively. 

From Starting Point of Ozaukee: 
"The first place theme, which will be used by Grafton students to design the 2012 Red Ribbon Week poster, is:  "Take a Stand for a Drug-Free Land" which was submitted by Erika Stielow from John Long Middle School.  The second place theme was "Plug Yourself Into Healthy Choices" which was submitted byKaitlyn Senczyszyn from Kennedy Elementary."  The themes were selected 1st and 2nd from the 316 ideas submitted by 7 different schools.

Bots IQ Competition
On November 12th, 2011 the GHS Robohawks competed at the Bots IQ competition. The team consisted of Jon Lindeman, Corey Bucholz, Logan Klug, Bryce Klug, Mitchell Maxwell, and Matthew Stone. This young group competed well and learned a lot. Their robot's name was "H.E.B.Q" short for "Hey everybody be quiet!"
