Grafton Robotics

Grafton Robotics consists of three levels of teams that use programs designed by FIRST®, an organization that aims to inspire students who have a passion for all things science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

FIRST LEGO League Explore - grades 2 through 4

Teams of students focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design and code, and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0. Look for registration information in the district and school newsletters in late October / early November. The FLL Explore season begins in January and runs through the beginning of April where the students' hard work is showcased at the Grafton Robotics Expo.

FIRST LEGO League Challenge - grades 5 through 8

Teams of students engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering – building and programming a LEGO robot that navigates the missions of a robot game. Teams also participate in a research project to identify and solve a relevant real-world problem. Look for registration information in the district and school newsletters in May. The FLL Challenge season begins in late August with competitions in November/December and possibly through February if the team advances.

FIRST Tech Challenge - grades 9 through 12

High school students are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. Guided by adult coaches, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and working as a team. This program is offered as a half-credit course, however, additional time will be required outside of school hours. The FTC season begins in September and culminates with competitions taking place sometime in December, January and/or February.
