Life Insurance

The District provides life insurance coverage for all eligible employees equal to one time their annual base pay.  The life insurance plan is administered by Madison National Life Insurance Company.

Since the District pays for your basic life insurance, the IRS considers the cost of the premium on greater than $50,000 of coverage to be considered income. When you receive your W-2 form each year, the value of this benefit will be included in your taxable earnings if your coverage is greater than $50,000. These earnings are taxed like your regular pay.

Beneficiary Designation
In the event of a death, life insurance benefits are paid to a beneficiary. You must name a beneficiary for your basic life insurance coverage. Beneficiary information should be listed on the Madison National Insurance Company Enrollment form or Change of Beneficiary form.
